Our purpose

Considering the global challenges we encountered in 2022, our cities' inherent growth demands that we adopt a broader perspective. These changes have also accentuated the inequalities prevalent worldwide. We should be motivated to envision a reimagined future through innovation, aiming to reconstruct our cities to be inclusive for all.

For the transformation of our cities, it's imperative to acknowledge a new path forward, unlocking new opportunities and introducing a fresh way of life. While "Building Our Future City" serves as the theme, our primary focus remains firmly rooted in the well-being of families across every community.

From navigating the challenges of COVID-19 in 2022 to the recent Chicago mayoral election on April 4th, 2023, the City of Chicago stands ready for transformation. With great anticipation, we introduce Mayor Brandon Johnson, the 57th Mayor of Chicago, whose leadership and vision will undoubtedly shape the future of our beloved city. Mayor Michael Hancock of Denver will host this remarkable session, supported by George Burciaga of the US Roundtable, promising an inspiring gathering of minds.

As we embark on this transformative journey, it is crucial to recognize the need for a new path forward—one that unlocks untapped opportunities and presents a fresh way of living. While titled "Rebuilding Our Future Chicago," our focus remains firmly rooted in the well-being of families across all communities. The U.S. Mayoral Roundtable, in collaboration with the Smart City Expo World Congress, is dedicated to fostering critical conversations among mayors globally, elevating inspiration, and sharing innovative ideas.

Together, we have the power to shape the future of our cities, creating prosperous and inclusive environments for all families in every community.

The World Has Changed

The world has undergone tremendous changes over the past few years. We've had to swiftly adapt and evolve, transitioning to virtual interactions, facing the unexpected, and electing a new president of the United States amid a global pandemic.

Our perspectives on medicine have shifted, embracing telehealth as a convenient and beneficial service. Simultaneously, we've witnessed Russia's invasion of Ukraine, igniting a tragic war that resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives. This period has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by significant milestones like appointing the first black woman to the Supreme Court and the widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies. However, it has also brought troubling challenges like surging gas prices and notable inflation.

Hence, the U.S. Mayoral Roundtable was established to accelerate collaboration among mayors, with a primary focus on recovery, rebuilding, and collective progress moving forward!

A Message from Mayor Lori Lightfoot,
